Robert Del Tredici - At Work in the Fields of the Bomb
73. Hanford n-Reactor
The graphite-moderated N-Reactor makes plutonium for the U.S. Nuclear arsenal. It, and the Savannah River Plant's reactors, are the only reactors creating plutonium for use in American nuclear weapons. The Hanford reactor, unlike those at the Savannah River Plant, also produces electricity for commercial use and so is referred to as a "dual-purpose" reactor. Richland, Washington. November 15, 1985.
