Robert Del Tredici - At Work in the Fields of the Bomb
93. Windscale, Back View
Two pipes covered with cement slabs come out of the back end of the Windscale plant. The pipes extend two miles out into the Irish Sear where, at a depth of 50 feet, they discharge radioactive wastewater from plutonium reprocessing operations. Windscale has been sending radioactive effluent directly into the Irish Sea for over 30 years. Seascale, Cumbria, England. September 6, 1981.
